Sickness/Struggling

March 26, 2020 by Amanda

So it has been a month since I lasted posted on here and so much has happened since then. Everyone’s lives have changed for the time being because of the Coronavirus Pandemic and many of us are stuck at home trying to make sense of what is happening and keep the virus from spreading. Many others are still working, trying to keep the country going; grocery store workers, truckers, daycare workers, warehouse workers, etc, while doctors and other medical personnel are working as hard as they can to save people’s lives. It honestly seems like we are in a movie, because it all seems surreal. Schools are closed, my son has been out of school since March 16th and we have no idea if school we even resume for the rest of the year. My anxiety is at an all time high, am I am sure that I am not alone. I try not to watch too much of the news, because it is all so frightening and depressing. But of course I want to stay up to date with the latest information so I have been watching the news conferences with the governor of my state and watching the nightly news to just keep an eye on things. But as far as watching news continuously, I just can’t do that anymore because it is taking a toll on my anxiety.

Along with everything else that is going on, I have been sick for two weeks. I woke up on Thursday, March 12th with a headache, sore throat, and feeling feverish. My temp was running about 99.5-100.0 for several days. I also felt completely run down and had no energy at all. I figured it was just a bug and I would get over in a few days. On day 6 I decided to call my doctor’s office and got in to Urgent Care. They tested me for flu and strep and they both came back negative. The doctor put me on a z-pack and figured that would take care of it. But unfortunately, my symptoms did not get any better and my low fever persisted. So on day 11, I called the doctor’s office again to get an appointment. When I went in, my temp was normal, my blood pressure was high again, so the doctor seemed more concerned about that than anything else. She put me on a stronger antibiotic and also put me on a blood pressure medication.

So today is day 14 and yesterday was actually the worst because my head hurt so bad, I couldn’t hardly stand it. But so far today my head is still hurting, but not as bad. I’ve started on the blood pressure meds and I’m continuing to take the antibiotic, mucinex and ibuprofen. So I am hopeful that in an other couple of days I should be feeling better. I am 99% sure that this is not COVID-19 related because some of my symptoms don’t seem to line up with what they are saying. My fever has never gone above 100.5 and I don’t really have much of a cough or breathing issues. I think it’s just a coincidence that I got sick around the same time that this new virus started spreading. If I could be tested for the virus, I definitely would just to make sure, but unfortunately my state is not testing people like me because they have so few tests available.

So I am practicing social distancing, staying home and practicing good hygiene. My husband is still working because he has an essential job, so that will likely continue. Right now my state does not have a shelter in place order, but regardless we are trying to stay away from the grocery stores and other places as much as possible. I am thankful that we live out in the country so we have a lot of room for our kids to play and run around. I am also thankful that I am a stay at home mom, so I have the privilege of already being able to be at home with my kids and keep them safe.

This is honestly a really, really difficult time for almost every person in the world. I have never experienced anything like this in my life and I know most other people have not either. It is a very stressful time and I have turned to eating a lot of junk food to cope during this time and that makes me even more stressed because I know my weight is creeping up there. But with being diagnosed with high blood pressure, I know that it is extremely important that I take better care of myself. I am determined to make a turn around this weekend and get back to eating healthier and getting back into a good exercise routine. By Saturday I plan to eliminate all of the junk food in my house and plan out healthier meals with the food that we have available in our house. I know that in the next few days as I start to feel better, I am going to be even more motivated to get back on track with my eating and exercise. I also hope to get back into making youtube videos next week because I think it will help occupy my time and keep me focused on something else besides the global health crisis.

I hope that everyone reading this is doing well and staying home if they can. I hope you all are healthy and taking care of yourself. I am going to try posting more on this blog because it really helps to have a place to write and get my feelings out, especially during a time like this.
